| Home : 2002 Health Communication ConferenceHealth Care Communication: A Key to Quality The Foundation's inaugural health communication conference, "Health Care Communication: A Key to Quality," was held on Octobe r 22, 2002, in partnership with the Institute of Medicine. The conference focused on how communication enhancements can improve both the quality of care and health outcomes, with particular emphasis on the aging population and those with chronic disease. The conference addressed interpersonal communication and health care communications systems, as well as the critical and expanding role that technology plays in all aspects of health communication today. The conference, which was held at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, DC, served as the culmination of the first year of the Foundation's Health Communication Initiative and was organized by a planning committee chaired by Harold J.
